Library and Information Centre

The Agharkar Research Institute Library is one of the important science reference libraries in city of Pune, especially for the Biological Sciences. The Library is primarily meant for the Institute's scientists and research students. However, it is frequently consulted and used by many research workers, teaching staff and students of various other institutes and colleges.

The strength of the Library lies in its collection of books and periodicals of specialised nature. The Library collection spans over the subjects like - Biometry, Nutrition, Botany, Medicinal Plants, Chemistry, Genetics, Plant Breeding, Geology, Palaeontology, Microbiology, Mycology, Zoology, Developmental Biology and so on. There are several periodicals available in the Library from its first volume. All the volumes of 'Biological Abstracts' are available in the library in printed format.

The Library is depository for the articles published by the ARI scientists and also for M.Sc., M.Phil. and Ph.D. theses completed at the Institute. All the Institute's publications like books, monographs, seminar proceedings, reprints are available in the Library for sale, except reprints.

The Library provides Xerox facility on payment basis. The Library is planning for various information services on payment basis to the interested readers. These may include subject bibliographies, selective dissemination of information service, document delivery service.

Most of the Library activities are executed with the help of computer and specialised library software is used for this purpose. The Library also offers the E-mail and Internet facilities.

The Library is planning to harness Information Technology sources to provide better information services to its users.
